THE DIABETES TRAINING AND RESEARCH TRUST
Since their founding in 1991 The Diabetes
Training and Research Trust has continued to acquire funding to support a wide range of projects nationally.
Our funds have been dispersed as follows:
Practice Nurse Education,
Speakers Expenses, Doctor Refresher Courses, Awareness Campaigns, Nurse Educator Training, Medical Student Fellowships,
Podiatrist Education, Pamphlets, Sponsorship of Equipment, Research Diabetes and Periodontal Disease, Payment of Conference Registration, Research
Celiac Disease, Travel and Accommodation
Expenses, Summer Student Sponsorship ~ Medical School, Marae and Islander Community ~ Testing and Education, Seminar
Expenses, Research into Management and Education of Maori, Miscellaneous Printing Costs, Research, Rural Outreach Programmes.
Our main project in the year 2000 has been to complete funding for a mini-van to be used by Canterbury
Diabetes Service for Rural Outreach Programmes, awareness programmes, public testing etc in areas from Akaroa to Rakaia, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura
etc.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To improve health maintenance and the quality of care for people with diabetes
mellitus.
OBJECTIVES OF THE TRUST:

1. To acquire financial reserves in order to develop short and long-term training schemes in
diabetes.

2. To assist with the education and development of skills training of any health professional involved in diabetes
services.

3. To arrange and assist with financing of primary or refresher courses in all matters relating to the disorders of
diabetes.

4. To promote and assist with projects which may further the training of any person involved with educational and research programmes in the broad field of diabetes mellitus or its
complications.

5. To improve the quality of life for diabetic individuals and reduce the incidence or prevalence of the disorder and is complications.
We have endeavoured to work with other diabetes trusts and Diabetes New Zealand to avoid a fragmented diabetes profile, and will continue to do
so.

raised from the sale of each Barnaby Bee Lapel Pin is given by Diabetes
Christchurch to support research projects to help people with diabetes.
The
Barnaby Bee Lapel Pin is approximately six centimetres high with
caricature of Barnaby Bee and has a bobble at end of pin. It can
used as a lapel or tie pin and displayed on your shirt, jacket, coat,
jersey, cardigan, tie, hat or cap.
