You will often see Barnaby Bee and his friends and volunteers carrying the "Bee Aware" health messages to the community. There are many variations, here are a few of the ones that we want people to ‘Bee’ Aware of: ‘Bee’ Healthy; ‘Bee’ Wise ~ exercise; ‘Bee’ Smart ~ look after your heart; ‘Bee’ Neat ~ look after your feet; ‘Bee’ Informed about diabetes; ‘Bee’ wealthy in good health; ‘Bee’ Wise ~ look after your eyes.

 

 IF YOU DON’T HAVE DIABETES ~ 'BEE' AWARE:   

Men, women and children of all ages can get diabetes.  

In New Zealand Diabetes affects:

  • 19 people each day in New Zealand are diagnosed with diabetes

  • 1 in 7 senior citizens 

  • 1 in 25 adults between 20 and 65

  • 1 in 1000 children

  • Many people are unaware they have diabetes. 

'BEE' KNOWLEDGEABLE:  
Symptoms of Diabetes can include:

Tiredness  Thirstiness   Frequent urination  Blurred vision     
Sores that won't heal  Itchiness
