CHRISTCHURCH CASINO BREAKFAST

Approximately ninety
plus special guests and friends of the growing diabetes family,
including Jean O'Callagan, Robin Richens, Diabetes Centre Manager, Alison Wilkie, Board Representative for CDHB, Doctor Peter Moore,
Clinical Director and Doctor Helen Lunt of the Diabetes Centre, Ian and
Margaret Middlemiss, President of DNZ, President of Diabetes
Christchurch, Liz Trow and
son Cam (costumed as Barnaby Bee ~ Cam), the local Amcal Pharmacy
owners, many representatives of Diabetes Life Education and Diabetes Maori and Pacific Island
Team Leaders and Lifestyle Advisors, Maggie Wilson,
Pegasus Diabetes Resource Nurse, Kidney Foundation President Guy
Johnson, Crown Health representatives Pauline Barnett and Dean Te Hae,
as well as a strong contingent of Christchurch Casino charity
supporters, including Arthur Pitcher, Christchurch Casino CEO ~ thanks
so much Arthur) plus many more friends, helpers and supporters of Diabetes
Christchurch all enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Christchurch
Casino, on the second day of Diabetes Awareness Week, even though it was
an early start for most of us ~ remember "Eyes Wide Open."

Master
of ceremonies, Brian Ringrose and our President, Liz Trow
introduced the three of seven Amcal Pharmacy
managers, Keith Meyer of Church Corner, Keith Elliot of
Shirley and Lois King of Kaiapoi who were thanked and
awarded certificates for the enthusiastic and tremendous financial
sponsorship of the now "very well known and much loved"
Barnaby Bee costume. The costume was
designed and produced by Alistair McDougall, of Court Theatre fame ~
thanks Alistair ~ job well done ~ and then Barnaby Bee flew in to meet
and greet everyone, and once again sang and danced his catchy jingle,
ably assisted by talented maestro's Pat Hannah and Ray Kane. With
bellies now topped up, and coffee in hand everyone relaxed to listen to
special guest speaker, Mark Hadlow.
Although
we have all heard and seen this talented and clever guy in his
various comical, theatrical and dramatic shows, musicals and
television programmes, to see and hear
him live "as a person talking about what he likes best ~
himself", singing, gurgling, whistling, impersonating musical
instruments and impersonations of many of his own life's most important and
impressionable characters, people, family and friends that he has meet
on life's journey and explaining just how they may influence, effect and often
change you and the directions you take in your own life ... as he told
us episode one of "The Life and Times of Mark Hadlow" in 30
plus minutes flat, it never ceases to amaze me just how special, clever,
wonderful, caring, hilarious, mad, crazy, spectacular and above all
inspirational this truly "Sensitive New Age Guy" is ~ thanks
Mark, you made this day extremely special for so many of us. All the
best for your future always, ... doing what you love and once again a
big thank you from all your old and new friends
associated with Diabetes Christchurch. PS ~ We all look
forward to episode two of "The Life and Times of Mark Hadlow"
at the Diabetes Christchurch Casino Breakfast in November, 2002.
