A AND P SHOW ~ 2001
Hundreds of people weaved their way through
the marquee to join us at the Diabetes Christchurch stall at the Royal New
Zealand A and P Show held on November 14, 15 and 16, 2001. The awareness message
was getting through in several ways with many people stopping for a chat, asking
questions and supporting us by purchasing a Barnaby Bee, BJ or other various
products we had on display. Solo and duo renditions
of our specially composed by Ringrose jingle, "I'm Barnaby, the Awareness
Bee" was sung frequently with considerable gusto and often received with
smiling applause, claps and the crowd joining in with us all.
Of particular attraction was
Barnaby Bee himself, a distinctive costumed person/s, (thanks Cam Trow, Athol Gray and Tony
Courtis) was
welcomed with hugs, cuddles and attention by literally thousands of children,
teenagers and adults.
The supreme point of attention to our cause came when the
Topp Twins (Jools and Lynda ~ pictured above with Barnaby Bee) invited Barnaby
Bee and Ray Kane (our bee keeper) onto the stage at the Village Green and both
characters
joined in the Topp Twins clever and entertaining show with spirited renditions of their show songs
together with all the appropriate actions. We
were mobbed for copies of the Topp Twins latest CD "Grass Highway" and
Topp Twin postcards that portrayed variety of characters Linda and Jools act on
their various television shows, and a proportion from the sales of these items
were donated to Diabetes Christchurch by Linda and Jools. If you would like more
information about the Topp Twins go to their website at: www.topptwins.co.nz
